I keep a stack of books in the bathroom for when I'm brushing my teeth or otherwise engaged, and I've been re-reading John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" about five pages at a time every night as I brush and gargle. For, like, the last two weeks it's been bothering me a lot about who he reminds me of, because it sounded so familiar in an odd way. Vaguely detached, somewhat self-deprecating, slightly whimsical, and occasionally poetic.
And it finally hit me-- the tone of the book reads a lot like the blogging of a somewhat older Neil Gaiman. Or should I be saying that Neil Gaiman's blogging reminds me of a younger John Steinbeck? Who knows.
Short entry today. I'm just going to dump some links I've accumulated.
San Diego menaced by jumbo squid. See, it's not only sharks you have to look out for! Also, sharks more likely to just eat you, not rape you.

China doctor reveals 100 rules for would-be spacemen. "The selection process, which the paper said is for the second batch of Chinese astronauts, will disqualify those who have runny noses, ringworm, drug allergies or bad breath."
6 Things That Shouldn't Explode (But Did Anyway). I loved Cracked.com because I can kill hours there, clicking around.
Last Post, read by Carol Ann Duffy. Also Courtesy of Flidget. Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, reads her poem "Last Post" to commemorate the death of the last British soldiers to fight in WWI. I quite like the poem itself, which is under the cut as well for my own preservation. The sound file is... it caught me off guard when I clicked it. But check it out.
