Much like my theory that there is a precise word in German for the exact moment of smite-y rage paralysis, I think there must also be a word for the exact moment of slow, creeping, dawning horror when you're on the phone with your mother and she reveals that not only is she at your house cleaning it because she doesn't trust you to wipe the bathrooms down for incipient guests, she also needs to charge her phone and do you still keep your charger by the bedside table-- and you remember just exactly what besides the phone charger you left plugged into the power strip beside the bedside table.

...This is not the first time my mother has seen my vibrator, but I honestly feel there are barriers between parent and child that should go uncontested all throughout life.

Also, I expect the word would be in French. Maybe even a phrase. I should ask Louise this, but she'll just laugh at me.

(Man, I couldn't even really warn her, because I was working this weekend, and taking the call from her while also trying to explain some CME-related matter to a doctor hanging about. All I could do was smile weakly at the dude and try to pick my words as carefully as possible before I hung up the phone.)

Anyway, I need to go to bed now, so I can get up and acquire flidgetjerome from the airport tomorrow. Fair warning to twigcollins and eramundo: if she brings a bag of doll eyes with her, I will abandon her on the side of I-66, and you guys are on your own for getting her back to Boston.
